Google Announces MVNO Plans
Google will offer mobile service in the coming months, says Sundar Pichai. His comments at the Mobile World Live Extra session suggest a partnership with existing providers, which points to some sort of MVNO offering. Pichai is Senior Vice President of Products at Google and speaker at the 2015 Mobile World Congress.
It is unclear what such a wireless arrangement would look like, but with offerings of other MVNOs already in the budget range, we hope for a major disruption in the wireless space. Lower prices at higher speeds can put pressure on the major providers, in much the same way Google Fiber role out is doing for home internet pricing in some communities. And, new technologies like LTE over balloon (Project Loon) could expand coverage to under-served communities. All signs point to good things to come.
